Original story: A 22-year-old man is in critical condition Wednesday night after he was shot in Mobile.

Mobile Fire-Rescue Department spokesman Steven Millhouse told AL.com that fire officials were dispatched to the 1900 block of South University Boulevard around 7 p.m. Wednesday on a report of a person shot.

While Mobile police secured the scene, medical crews treated the 22-year-old victim for a single gunshot wound before transporting him to a local hospital for emergency care, Millhouse said.

The victim had a pulse when fire officials arrived but remained in critical condition Wednesday night.

Police, who continued to investigate the incident, could not immediately be reached for comment.
