Madden 18 Franchise Mode Guide

To start out Madden 18’s Franchise mode, you need to decide what sort of franchise you want to enter. You can either opt to use a real life NFL roster, and thus eliminate the fantasy-style draft, or you can choose to use custom rosters, and draft your dream team. Selecting to use real rosters cuts out the draft, so if you opted for this, you might want to skip the next section.

Madden 18 Best Franchise Draft Strategies

If you selected to draft your own custom team, then this is where the real fun of the Franchise mode begins, as you effectively draft your dream team – if you’re smart about your picks.

How to Draft a Superstar in Connected Franchise Mode

There’s no telling where you’ll pick in the first round, but your first pick should be on either a QB or a running back, depending which one your offense revolves around. If you prefer to pass the ball, then go with the QB, but if you like to chip away at the defense using the run, then opt for the running back.

We’d strongly recommend that your second pick go towards a position on the offensive line, likely a center or guard, especially if you opted for a running back with your first round pick. A solid offensive line is the key to success in any Madden 18 mode, and it can boost your running game, should that be struggling somewhat.

For your third pick, it’s time to turn to the defensive side of the ball. We’d recommend someone on the defensive line, mainly because putting some form of pressure on the QB is paramount in Madden 18, and a good pass rush can always compensate for a slightly weaker secondary.

At this point, select either a cornerback if you think you’re going to have difficulty stopping the pass, or select a middle linebacker if there’s a high chance you’ll see running plays more often than not. After this fourth pick, it’s time to turn back to the offense, where you should draft either a QB if you took a running back first, or vice versa.

Grab yourself another player anywhere on the offensive line with your sixth Franchise pick, and then it’s time to draft either a tight end if you plan to favor the run, or a wide receiver if you think you’ll prefer to pass the ball. Turn back to the defense at this point, and draft a cornerback if you chose a linebacker earlier, and vice versa.

At this point, it basically becomes a game of getting the best players that are available with every pick, but also plugging any gaps that are in your lineup. You want aim to end the Franchise draft with at least 4 wide receivers, 3 tight ends, 4 cornerbacks, and at least 2 players at each linebacker position. Notice that you’ll receive ‘draft gradings’ for each position on your team down the left hand side of the screen as you’re making your pick, which is a great way of noting which positions you still need to draft at.

Madden 18 Franchise Mode Tips and Tricks

Just below, we’ve outlined some handy pointers to help you around the Franchise mode in Madden 18, as there can be quite a lot to get your head around – especially if this is your first time playing the mode.

  • If you want to skip a game, and thus have it simulated for you with the outcome randomised, simply select the ‘advance week’ option on the main tab in Franchise mode.
  • While simulating games entirely randomises the outcome, you obviously have a better chance of beating teams with a high overall rating than yours, and a greater chance of losing to those who are boast a better roster.
  • Bear in mind that Franchise mode can be played either solo or online with friends, so you don’t necessarily have to be online to enjoy the full benefits that the mode offers.
  • If you need to improve your team at all, you can select the ‘improve team’ option to view the current available free agents, or head into the ‘trade center’ to view every team’s roster, and attempt to trade for a player.
  • If you have a player on your team that isn’t pulling their weight, you can always offer them up for a trade by putting them on the trade block. To do this, go into ‘my team’, select a player, and choose ‘add to trade block’.
  • There’s no real downside to putting a player on the trade block, as you can see what teams would offer for them, and you can take them off the trade block any time you please.
